The Clothing Place
The Hopewell Food Pantry is a 501c3 nonprofit charitable organization serving the residents of the City of Hopewell with two services: the food pantry and the thrift store.
The mission of The Clothing Place (TCP) is to sell quality used items donated by members of the community, and in-turn sold at great prices. Through the low prices and availability to excellent clothing, we are improving the quality of life for our clients and residents of Hopewell. Any excess income beyond our operating costs is donated to the Hopewell Food Pantry.
Daily sales of specific types of clothing and household items are posted at the store on a daily basis. You can also find this information on the Hopewell Food Pantry’s Facebook page.
EVRYONE is welcome to shop at our store. This store is not only for our pantry clients, but for the general public as well.
Clothing for Those in Need
Responding to the needs of the residents of Hopewell, free clothing can be given to families in certain situations. They must be referred to us by Hopewell Department of Social Services (HDSS), St James Catholic Church, or Hopewell-Prince George Healthy Families. Once they receive a referral voucher, families and individuals will be permitted to shop at the store for clothing items.
There are three situations that can result in free clothing:
Recurring needs of an individuals: With a TCP voucher this group can receive a $15 credit toward any clothing item in the store. These vouchers can be used once every six months.
Families can also receive $15 per person, or $60 per family of 4 or more. These vouchers can be used once every six months.
Family disaster: With a TCP voucher each family member can receive a $25 credit toward any clothing item in the store.
In all three groups, if you have left over credit and need a specific item that TCP does not have, a second visit is allowed if they have over $5 left on their voucher.
Voucher money is based on the regular price of each item.
How to Donate
Your donations of clean, gently used (and new) clothing and/or household items can only be dropped off during our operating hours.
You can either come through the front entrance or go into the alley behind the store. (Be aware the alley is very narrow.) In the alley you will find an inset with fencing. Open the gate and ring the doorbell and a volunteer will come to pick it up. Any clothing left at the alley door while we are closed, will be considered as unusable if it rains or snows. A donation receipt can be provided for tax purposes upon request.
Besides clothing items, TCP accepts small appliances, linens and blankets, kitchen items, knick-knacks, seasonal decorations, DVDs, etc. Donations that we cannot use will be taken to a nonprofit thrift shop in Chester or Colonial Heights to be sold or recycled.

Volunteer
Volunteers support the operation of the thrift store. If you have any interest in volunteering 4 hours a week, you are welcome to join us. Just call and leave your contact information on the answering machine, along with the day(s) you are available. Most people volunteer one or perhaps two days a week. Unfortunately, the thrift store does not accept court-ordered community service at this time. We’re happy to have you at the food pantry.
